What is Student Mobility for Studies?

Student Mobility for Studies refers to the opportunity for higher education institution students to spend one or two semesters of their education within a study level at an affiliated higher education institution in a European Union member country. To carry out this mobility activity, it is necessary for your department to have an Erasmus University Charter (EUC) with the relevant department of a higher education institution in an EU member country and an Erasmus Bilateral Agreement. Who can benefit from Student Mobility for Studies?

Student Mobility for Studies is available to full-time associate, undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students in higher education institutions. The minimum required academic GPA to benefit from the program is:

  • 2.20/4.00 for associate and undergraduate students
  • 2.50/4.00 for master’s and doctoral students

Students in their first year of study at the associate and undergraduate levels can apply for Student Mobility for Studies.

Students who will complete the minimum study periods at the end of the academic year during the Erasmus application stage (second-year associate and fourth-year undergraduate students) cannot apply for the program for the following year.

The applications of students whose GPA is below the minimum requirement of 2.20/4.00 will not be accepted.

 

How can I apply for Student Mobility for Studies?

For students who will benefit from Erasmus student mobility at our university, application and selection processes are carried out at least once a year. The application deadlines vary each year.

During the application periods, applications are accepted through e-Devlet (https://erasmusbasvuru.ua.gov.tr/giris?returnUrl=%2F). To apply, there must be a valid Erasmus Bilateral Agreement for the relevant academic year between your department and an EU higher education institution that holds an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE).

 

Do I need to take a foreign language exam to benefit from the Erasmus program?

A uniform criterion for determining the foreign language proficiency will be established, applicable equally to all applicants. During the application stage, all students will be required to submit the same (or different but deemed equivalent) documents/exam results (individuals without valid documents will be subjected to an English language exam), and these documents/results will be taken into consideration.

In the selection of Erasmus students, 50% of the grade point average and 50% of the foreign language score are considered. Based on the calculated weighted average, the number of students who can become Erasmus candidate students is determined within the Bilateral Agreement quota. Students applying to benefit from the program are obliged to take foreign language exams held at the times and locations announced on our page during the application periods.

 

If I become an Erasmus student, how much grant can I receive?

The Erasmus grant does not aim to finance the entire exchange activity. It is intended only to cover additional expenses resulting from the student’s presence abroad. The grant amounts are determined by the European Commission and the National Agency for each contract period.

Before the student goes abroad, 80% of the earned grant is deposited into the student’s account, and the remaining 20% is deposited after submitting the necessary documents to the Erasmus Coordinatorship at the end of the exchange.*

*In our university, students who are identified as not attending classes, not taking exams, and/or not fulfilling their responsibilities as students during the Erasmus exchange period, and this situation is documented, will not be paid 20% of the total grants calculated for their activity periods. The decision to make deductions of more than 20% in the total grant is at the discretion of the higher education institution. However, students who fail to be successful in at least two-thirds of the total credit hours specified in the learning agreement are considered unsuccessful. Nevertheless, the decision to pay the total grants of students who have regularly attended classes and taken exams but have failed to complete their activities successfully, or to make deductions in their total grants, rests with the higher education institution.

  1. Documents to be completed during the mobility:
  • After arriving at the destination university, the student must sign the Arrival & Departure document and inform our Erasmus Office by sending it via email to confirm their arrival.
  • If the student needs to make changes to the courses listed in the Learning Agreement prepared before the mobility, they must first contact the Erasmus Department Coordinator to communicate the relevant changes. The “During Mobility” (Changes) section of the Learning Agreement should be completed and sent to the Erasmus Office.
  • Students who wish to extend their mobility from the fall semester to the spring semester should apply to their Department and Erasmus Office after the matching of 30 ECTS credits at the host university. It is important to note that there is no guarantee of a second grant payment, as the principle of fairness is applied to ensure that every student can benefit from Erasmus. Therefore, before applying for an extension, the student should contact the Erasmus Office to inquire about their grant status.
