Istanbul Arel University’s ERASMUS+ Policy Statement (EPS)
Istanbul Arel University was established on May 18, 2007 by the Kemal Gözükara Education and Culture Foundation. The university is non-profit and foundation-supported carrying on the mission of its founder who brings more than 30 years of experience to quality teaching and intensive research starting with kindergarten onto high school and the university. It is quickly becoming recognized as one of the distinguished institutions of higher learning in the country. Istanbul Arel University’s vision is to become an internationally recognized contemporary education and research institution that raises individuals who can identify and analysis the ever-changing social, cultural, economic and technological requirements and carry out innovative scientific research and professional activities in order to meet these requirements. Therefore, AREL will continue to contribute to the EU modernization of Higher Educations in EU as well as Turkey via Erasmus+ programme. It is clear to understand to be active in the exchange programs promote international cooperation and quality of higher education. it is important to harness the full potential of education and culture such as drivers for job creation, economic growth and improved social cohesion. By achieving tin objectives, our aim to experience European identity in all its diversity. We strongly believe that Exchanges programmes are one of the priority to improve our vision (internationalization strategy) for the net period. Our internationalization strategy includes European Education area objectives, modernization strategy, multicultural awareness, stronger sense of European identity.
AREL has 12.363 students who can potently benefit from the whole projects implemented and a strong emphasis to the internationalization of the university in the field of education, research, student life and staff opportunities. The university has currently 493 international students form all around the world. Erasmus programme provides many interests to our students and staff. Studying or visiting opportunities, to improve higher education qualifications, language skills and to support person few opportunities such as socio-economic or cultural background. For the strategy of the internationalization, the university aims to serve as global leaders, who have the ability to understand different cultures, to conduct discussions and negotiations in English, and have practically applicable expertise.
AREL has 3 campuses Kemal Gözükara, Sefaköy and Cevizlibağ which are located on the European side of Istanbul. The Kemal Gözükara Campus has been designed to provide the most modern facilities for a recreational area catering to culture, art, athletics and entertainment. Our vocational School and Institutes are located in the Sefaköy campus. AREL has 6 faculties including Faculty of Science and Letters, Faculty of Fine Arts, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Communication, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture and Faculty of Medicine, 2 Schools (Bachelor's Degree), School of Health Science and a School of Foreign Languages and Vocational School offering 41 programs. In addition, there are 3 post graduate programmes involving Institute of Sciences, Institute of Health Sciences and Institute of Social Sciences. Besides, AREL has 12 Research Centers which is the most important centers are Technology Transfer Office (ARELTTO), Incubation and Entrepreneurship Centre (ARELPLUS), Polymer Technologies and Composite Application and Research Centre(ArelPOTKAM), Psychology Research and Application Centre(ArelPAM), Career Planing, Application and Research Centre(ARELKAM) and Youth Activities Centre(YOUTHAREL). YOUTHAREL promotes the youth projects such as KA105 under the Erasmus Plus.
The university has the strategic objective of extending its’ international reach through the Erasmus+ Programs. The university board, the Board of Trustees, the Rector, the Vice Rectors, Secretary General and the Erasmus+ and International Relations Office strongly encourage international cooperation as a means of enriching our curriculum and focusing our academic vision. The intent of increasing cooperation with so many institutions is not only to increase student and staff mobility, but also student placement in the larger business environment. For this purpose, AREL has 292 inter-institutional agreements among 21 EU countries under the Erasmus+ Programme.
AREL has been awarded the EUC (TR ISTANBU29). The university has fully committed itself, for the period of 2014-2020, to participate in Erasmus+ Program activities. The university has facilitated the use of ECTS (credits) in all curriculum development (https://ects.arel.edu.tr/home-page ) and it has established strong partnerships for student and staff mobility. The university has been also awarded Diploma Supplement Label (DS). It is also planning to reach out for transnational student placements.
The Erasmus+ and International Office which has 2 specialists, Erasmus Institutional Coordinator, expert in The European Commission Research Executive Agency, and Erasmus Departmental Coordinators with the Rector, coordinates and promotes partnerships with institutions and tries to remove barriers between them. The office extensively publishes all its’ activities on the university’s web site as well as distributing leaflets and catalogs (https://erasmus-plus.arel.edu.tr/en). The university recognizes the special needs of disabled students, providing easy access for all facilities. The Equal Opportunity Policies of the university apply to everybody. The Rector’s Committee strictly enforces a policy regarding such global issues such as racism, xenophobia and human rights.
Istanbul Arel University, with the help of its qualified teaching staff, aims to raise individuals who question and research and who are creative, libertarian, distinctive and self-reliant. Istanbul Arel University aims to offer an outstanding educational experience along with a vibrant and enjoyable campus life by creating a global environment that contributes to the academic, sportive, cultural and social development of its students through an international educational approach.
